Questions and Answers for Parents of Teens in Crisis

Q: How can I talk my child into accepting the program?

A: Suggest that your child come and take a tour of Casa. Have him or her talk to a staff member. Let your child know that there are no locked doors at Casa and that he or she can leave at any time (with program consequences, of course).

Q: What kinds of fees are involved?

A: We have sliding fee scales based on the gross monthly income of the home and the number of people living in the home. Money will not become a problem as our first priority is to help the family, and if a family has to put off paying us for a while that is okay.

Q: Whom are you licensed by?

A: We are licensed by the California State Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing.

Q: What about counselors' qualifications?

A: We have 2 licensed Marriage, Family, and Child counselors on staff who provide services and counseling supervision for the Masters level counselors, and we have graduate students working on their Masters in Counseling Psychology.

Q: Can friends of our family visit our child and take him/her off the premises?

A: Only with permission of the counselor and parents.

Q: I have a runaway in my home: What are the legalities (or what should I do)?

A: In California, you could be charged with harboring a runaway. Suggest calling the child's parents. If that is not feasible, suggest bringing the child to Casa.
