Individual Counseling

Recipient of Service:
This service is for residents of Casa Youth Shelter.

Schedule:
Individual counseling is provided at Casa Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Service Provider:
Individual counseling is provided by Casa's paid and volunteer staff counselors. Minimum qualifications for staff counselor positions include enrollment in a graduate studies program leading to a degree of Master in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field. Many staff counselors exceed the minimum qualification by possessing a Masters degree and State of California registration as a Marriage, Family, Child Counselor Intern or are California Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).

Service Description:
Individual counseling sessions are one-on-one between a resident and a counselor and take place 2 or 3 times a week.

Goals of this Service:
Goals for individual counseling include giving the child a forum to deal emotionally with trauma that has forced him or her from home. During the initial sessions, each youth is asked to determine exit goals and to be an active participant in the exit process, which can occur within 2 weeks of arriving at the shelter.
